How to report changes that may affect your pension – those living abroad

If you live outside Sweden and receive a Swedish pension, you need to notify us of any changes that may affect your pension. For example, you must notify us of any change of address, if you receive a new pension, if a pension changes or if your marital status changes.

It is your responsibility to notify us if there has been a change of circumstance that may affect your pension. If you are paid too much money, you may be liable to repay the excess amount.

Changes you need to report to the Swedish Pensions Agency

  • Moving to another country. This may affect your right to receive a pension.
  • Change of address within the same country. Otherwise, you may miss important information from us.
  • New pensions or annuities, or changes to existing ones, from a country other than Sweden. Changes to your income may affect how your Swedish pension is calculated.
  • Change of marital status. This may affect the calculation of your pension or your right to a survivor’s pension.
  • Separation or cohabitation with someone with whom you have been married or had children.
  • Death. When you die, we need to be informed of this by your next of kin so that we do not continue to make pension payments. Please inform your next of kin about this now so that they are prepared.

How to notify us of any changes

To notify us of any changes containing personal data, you will need to contact us by post. If you have any general questions, please contact us in whatever way suits you.

Postal address: The Swedish Pensions Agency, 839 77 Östersund, SWEDEN

Email: international@pensionsmyndigheten.se

Telephone: +46 498 200 700

You must always inform us if you are granted a new pension or annuity from a country other than Sweden. You must also notify us if your pension or annuity changes in some way, such as the amount you receive. Your pension from another country may affect the calculation of your Swedish pension.

It is important that you notify us as soon as possible. If your pension payments are incorrect because we do not have the correct information, you may be liable for repayment.

If you live abroad, you must always notify us of any change to your marital status. For example, if you marry, divorce or become a widow or widower. The same applies to registered partners.

You must also inform us if you separate or move back together with someone you were married to or with whom you have children.

Your marital status may affect the calculation of your old-age pension or your right to a survivor’s pension and widow’s annuity. It is important that you notify us as soon as possible. If your pension payments are incorrect because we do not have the correct information, you may be liable for repayment.

If you live outside Sweden, you should always inform us when you change your address, as you are not in the Swedish population register. You must notify us of your new address regardless of whether you are moving within the country or to another country. You also must inform us if the address of your child or the child’s guardian changes.

Even if you do not receive a pension from the Swedish Pensions Agency, we would be grateful if you could notify us of your current address (only if you live outside Sweden).

It is important that the Swedish Pensions Agency has your current address

  • To ensure that you receive any remuneration you are entitled to. Your pension from the Swedish Pensions Agency may be affected by which country you live in or move to, making it important that you notify us of your new address as soon as possible. If your pension payments are incorrect because we do not have the correct information, you may be liable for repayment.
  • We may wish to reach you by post regarding matters such as payment decisions, life certificates and other information you need.

We need to know when someone receiving payments from the Swedish Pensions Agency dies while living outside Sweden.

The information we need is the deceased’s name and personal identity number, date of death and a copy of the death certificate. We also need contact details for the next of kin.

A repayment demand may be made for amounts that have been incorrectly paid out.
