If you are studying abroad, you must also notify us. This applies over 18 years of age, have a survivor's pension and are studying in primary or secondary school or the equivalent.

The following applies to those with a survivor's pension who have reached the age of 18

  • If you live within the EU/EEA or Switzerland, the Swedish Pensions Agency will send you a letter requesting information about your studies and your bank account, when you turn 18.
  • If you are still enrolled in school, you must provide us with information about your studies.
  • To be entitled to a survivor's pension after the age of 18, you must be studying at primary or secondary school or the equivalent.
  • Furthermore, your studies must entitle you to study allowance from CSN (the Swedish National Board of Student Aid) or extended child benefit from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.
  • The survivor's pension can only be paid through June of the year in which the child turns 20.
  • After you turn 18, you yourself receive the money. You must inform us of the bank account to which you wish the compensation sent. If you do not have your own account, you must contact a bank and open an account.
  • If you wish your pension to be deposited on the bank account of a third party, you can contact your bank to arrange for an automatic transfer from your account.

  • When the Swedish Pensions Agency are informed that your parent has died, and if you live within the EU/EEA or Switzerland, we will send you a letter with information about which studies entitle you to a survivor's pension.
  • To be entitled to a survivor's pension, you must be studying at primary or secondary school or the equivalent.
  • Furthermore, your studies must entitle you to study allowance from CSN (the Swedish National Board of Student Aid) or extended child benefit from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency. There is no requirement that CSN pay study allowance, only that you are pursuing studies that may entitle you to study allowance.
  • The survivor's pension can only be paid through June of the year in which the child turns 20.
  • If you still attend school, you must notify the Swedish Pensions Agency of your studies so that we can issue a decision regarding your survivor's pension.
  • If you are not currently studying, but will start studying later, you can provide information about your studies and your account later.

  • After being granted an extended survivor's pension, it is important to notify us of any changes that may affect your compensation entitlement. For example, if you suspend your studies.
  • Report any changes by providing a new date for the duration of your studies.
  • If you start a new study programme that ends at a later date than previously notified, you may be entitled to additional extended survivor's pension. The new study programme must be in primary, secondary or equivalent education. Furthermore, your studies must entitle you to study allowance from CSN (the Swedish National Board of Student Aid) or extended child benefit from the Swedish Social Insurance Agency.

You can also submit your notification by post. Please provide all information requested and be sure to sign the form before sending it to us.
